My name is Shantana Valdez. I am a mother of 5 children ranging from ages 12 to 6 years of age. I’ve been married for 12 years to my husband who is currently the Pastor at the Door Christian Fellowship Church in Santa Rosa. I'm currently a teacher at Santa Rosa Consolidated Schools. Prior to becoming a teacher, I was in the Army National Guard for 11 years where my primary MOS was an 88M (Heavy Motor Vehicle Operator). During my time in the military, I was a federal technician in the finance department at the USP&FO as the Lead Defense Travel Administrator for the New Mexico Army National Guard, along with being a Voucher examiner. During my 6 years at the USP&FO is when I decided I wanted to go to school for Accounting. After my time there I took on the role of being a training NCO and a Detachment Readiness for 2 years, where I prepared my platoon for training and completing unit missions. After being moved from those positions I served as a Heavy Motor Vehicle Operator Instructor educating new troops on how to operate military vehicles and cargo. During my time in the military, I always knew there was a greater calling and felt that reaching the youth was important, but didn’t know how I would make a difference in our future leaders. I then applied at SRCS and was hired to be the business education teacher. During my 5 years at SRCS I have been able to hold positions as a coach, advisor, and of course an educator. I look forward to continuing working with the youth. My goal as an educator is to make a difference in students' lives and ensure that they stay motivated to accomplish their goals and dreams.
